Last week, the New England Patriots parted ways with their longtime starting center when they released David Andrews. Now, the team is adding another veteran at the position.

As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots are signing Garrett Bradbury. It’s a two-year deal worth up to $12 million, with $3.8 million in guaranteed money.

Bradbury, 29, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over the past six seasons he played in and started 88 games for the team.

Last year was a relative down year for Bradbury. He was called for a career-high six accepted penalties, and his 38 pressures allowed were also a career high and the most by a center in the NFL. It was reported last week the Vikings would be releasing him with reports quickly linking the Patriots as a potential landing spot.

Garrett Bradbury is signing with the Patriots shortly after being released by the Vikings.

In New England Bradbury adds an experienced veteran presence to a center group without a clear direction following Andrews’ release. Ben Brown is the next-most experienced player at the position on the roster, after starting 10 games last year following Andrews’ shoulder injury.

The only other true centers on the roster are Jake Andrews and Lecitus Smith. Andrews appeared in two games as a rookie in 2023 at guard then spent all of last year on IR. Smith made two starts at guard for the Arizona Cardinals in 2022, but didn’t play in 2023 and played just five snaps for the Patriots last year all as a tackle-eligible sixth offensive lineman.

Then there’s 2022 first-round pick Cole Strange. Strange was drafted as a guard, but after missing most of the 2024 season due to a knee injury returned late and started transitioning to center. He played the final two games of the year at that position last year, marking his first snaps at the position in a game in either college or the NFL.
